Improving the legal protection of animals through national and international law is one of WSPA’s most important objectives. WSPA has consultative status with the United Nations and several other international organisations and advises governments and member societies on appropriate animal welfare legislation.
WSPA believes that an international agreement on welfare standards should become a key goal for the animal welfare movement in the 21st century. The first step in achieving a truly international agreement is to secure a Universal Declaration for the Welfare of Animals at the United Nations.
